Our Apartment

Finally! Decorating on a budget of nothing is a definite challenge. Between hand me downs, renovated pieces, and our “must have outs”  this baby sized apartment has gone through many stages. And so here is our apartment, in all of its eclectic glory.

(From Entryway)(Teeny Kitchen. My little chalk board is one of my faves.)

(Living room. And yes that is a basket from the LCU bookstore.)

(This DP crate is the greatest! My wonderful mother in law gave it to me during Christmas. I love it so much.)

(Dining area. The picture above the table are some of Jordan’s favorite postcards from Spain. The jars on the table are my most recent thrifty purchase.)

(Other view toward the kitchen. For my 19th birthday I bought a bongo drum…it is now a little table.)

(Our living room. The beauty of this arrangement is that Jordan and I have our own couches. That flower couch is my pride and joy. My mom recovered that thing a few summers ago.)

(Our bedroom. Sadly, it is WAY to hot to have our beautiful brown comforter on the bed. Thank you college bedding!)

(Our “P” wall, a constant work in progress,  and Jor’s work space)

(Other side.)

(Other view)

(Lems LOVES this window)

(Bathroom)

(Other view. Thank you to Lauren Sportsman for the best idea for hanging necklaces.)

(This note hangs above our mirror in the bathroom. A random guy on S. Congress gave it to me, and I love reading it every time I am in there.)

Our place is tiny, but it is home :) . It fits us perfectly and makes us 3 feel all happy like this:

Weekend Update

The 5 things I  learned this weekend:

1) Harry Potter is good at the IMAX and is great at the Alamo:

(Cheese burgers and  Butterbeer make the Alamo a perfect place to see HP. Awkward movie moment: Jordan and I being the ONLY people in the theater who burst out into fits of laughter when Voldemort hugs Malfoy.)

2) Blockbuster is an incredibly sad place. I remember going to rent movies growing up and it being the highlight of my week (that and T.G.I.F.). Jordan and I went Saturday night to rent the next season of Dexter and it was just depressing. Even though I am a lover of netflix, I do miss the anticipation, anxiety and excitement that comes from renting the perfect movie… Oh, the advancements of technology (we are in a love hate relationship). I have a good feeling that I am going to be one of those crotchety old people who starts every sentence with the words “Back in my day…” 3) I am a self professed soap opera lover. My story of choice is All My Children, and yes I was grief stricken when I found out that it was being canceled. Jordan and I recently canceled our cable and I have been unable to watch my show, thankfully they show it online (technology love). I was about 20 something episodes behind and really needed to catch up, so the best alternative was to just listen to the shows while I worked. While I am normally swept up in the drama of the show, simply listening to it is just hilarious. More specifically listening to the drunken rants of JR  are  incredibly entertaining. 4) I have rediscovered my lost love for the show “The Hills” thanks to Netflix. As my friend Cassie explains it, “It is nice to have time when you can take your brain out for a bit.” This is true, because there is zero thinking involved in this show…which is perfect. 5) Cinnamon Roll Pancakes are freaking amazing. Google a recipe and get to making them. I hope you had as great of a weekend as Lemon did:

It smells like meat.

The past few days have been incredibly slow and wonderful. We finished the 3rd season of Dexter (yayee!) and went to dinner with our good friends Seth and Erin at the County Line. Loved loved this place and loved the bbq!

(Don’t mind if I do.)

(Outside deck)

(Turtles!)

(This was probably our 17th attempt at getting a good picture. Jordan was very proud of his “TMZ” like paparazzi skills.)

(I think the last time I used a self timer like this was during college. It felt good to be back. Obviously, Jordan was thrilled.)

Happy almost weekend hope your tomorrow is wonderful!

Current Favorites

Currently loving:

(Sparkling flavored water. HEB brand is my favorite. It is pretty hard to pass up 2 for $1.)

(I have great difficulty when it comes to painting my own fingernails. I am amazing at painting the left hand but when I do the right, it looks like I let a 4-year-old help me out. So this current style has been the answer to so many problems! Clear polish and glitter. I can do this to myself, and my right hand can be safe from potential ridicule.)

(Yes, my love for this show continues to grow. Why did I doubt it again?)

(The newest album from Incubus. I love how different this one is from all their others albums. This album is also pumping me up to see them in October! They are simply amazing live. Brandon Boyd can do no wrong.)

Currently wanting:

(A mile tacker by Nike. The thing I hate most about running in the outdoors, besides the heat, is having no clue how far I have gone. This is incredible and I need to get my hands on one of these stat!)

Hope your Tuesday is going well :)

The end.

Sadly, I think I have hit a blogging wall. I have run into the “Honestly, I have nothing to say” point. But I will try my hardest to push through and create a bitchin post for you.

So I, like many others, have been anxiously awaiting July 15th for a long time. I was not able to go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter, but the fact that Jordan got us tickets to the imax on Saturday totally made up for it. We sat in line for about 2.5 hours waiting to go into the movie and met a little girl who was dressed like Belatrix (but her dad called her Hagrid, which was hilarious).

(Jordan and I once we FINALLY got in the theater. I know you can’t tell but I need to give my brother-in-law a shout out for the best shirt ever. It is called house brawl, and shows all the animals from the houses. You know you want to check it out, and then buy it for yourself: http://www.threadless.com/product/2559/House_Brawl/tab,guys/style,shirt)

We had no idea that the movie was going to be in 3-D, and let me tell you that the combination of imax and 3-D  is a bit overwhelming. I  felt like I was drowning when the words would come towards my face. Thankfully, I got over this terrible feeling and was able to enjoy one of the best movies ever. Yes, I did say ever. We were also overjoyed when the preview for the Dark Knight Rises came on. I have loved Christian Bale ever since he looked like this:

(Jack Kelley in Newsies. And the guy in the background has the best face ever.)

Jordan and I ended our night with 24 Diner (simply amazing) where we ate lots of chicken and waffles, and  french toast. (If you come to Austin, do yourself a solid and go to 24 Diner.)

Sunday was incredibly productive with Jordan doing lots of HW and me doing hours and hours of cleaning. Lemon did her part by promptly peeing on the clean floors and then hacking “lung butter” in Jordan’s face. Over all I would say it was a good weekend.

Happy Monday!

Of dogs and baseball

I am so behind on this whole blogging thing. Catch up time:

Last week Jordan and I went to an LCU event for alumni at the Round Rock Express game. It was great to see some people from school and to partake in funnel cake fries. I didn’t get to take any pictures while I was at the game so here is a picture from the last time I was there.                                                                                                   (My good friend Erin. Love her!)

Jordan and I went to Midland this weekend for a funeral of the father of one of my good friends. It was a very sad reason to go home, but it was still great being back for a bit. Pictures from this trip are limited, but I was sure to document the goodness that follows:

(This is my first baby Linus. His hair is thick and with the blazing weather in Midland he needs to get his Pomeranian hair cut often. My dad decided that it would be a better decision for us to do it rather than PetSmart.)

(The during. The after is so terrible that I didn’t take a picture because I was laughing so hard.)

(And here is our girl before she got the trim.)

(And after. She looks like a naked deer.)

(And 2. She had a rough day today…vomit, other gross stuff, fainting, and itching extreme. A visit to the vet/slight panic attack/speedy drive home later she is feeling much better.)

I hope that you have had a great Tuesday and hope that you are beginning to prep your minds for Harry Potter this week…prepare them well people.

Before and After

For the past few months I have become obsessed with design blogs. A child raised on HGTV, (and a grandmother who moved so frequently from house to house that you would not even know she had bought a new home until she needed you to help with the boxes. This need came in part from desire of  change or new project), I have come to love all kinds of design and it is through this TV channel and blogs (and life with my g-ma) that I have developed my personal decorating style. I am a firm believer in “One man’s crap is another man’s renovation project.” I have worked at this practice, as a poor newlywed, and I would like to think that I am doing a pretty good job. I will work on getting pics of our apartment up here, but for now I have a quick re-do that I did.

(Before: I got this mirror frame at a Farmer’s Market for $3. Apologies for the world’s worst picture.)

(After: High gloss Black spray paint and “P” from Anthropologie.)

The next before and after is more for my mom than anyone else:

(At the Braves game with Jordan’s cousins Tyler and Victoria.)

(After! Yay new hair. And yes, that is the bathroom at work. Yes, i did use my phone. Yes, I am slightly embarrassed that I did that, but my mom said she wanted to see a picture. I figured this was way cooler than asking someone to take it for me. I may have been wrong in that assumption.

I hope that you have had a wonderful Wednesday so far! Also, if you know of any really great design blogs, send them my way :)

The Day Trip. In Picture Form.

(Down town Fort Worth)

(One of my favorite pictures from that night. Is it morbid that this picture makes me think of the movie From Hell?)

(Jordan and I had separate beds at the hotel. This meant we got to sleep “Starfish,” as Jordan calls it, compared to sleeping “Burrito” which is what marriage has brought him to.  The beds were also Sleep Number. Mine was on a 5. It felt like an empty water bed.)

(Jordan, in half  “Starfish” position, had a malfunctioning Sleep Number. Eventually we got it working and he tested the 100 level…misery. Pure misery.)

(Lauren+Cracker Barrel=A very happy me)

(Lemon, inappropriate as she may be, was happy to have us home.  And yes, that is Dexter playing in the background. The rest of my weekend was spent watching the Second Season. Safe to say I am addicted.)

Happy Tuesday!
